Gabbeh rugs have their origins in the Persian language, Farsi, and are known for their natural, uncut look. Handmade by Ghashghai nomads from Iran's Farsi province, these carpets are renowned in the handmade carpet world. Made from handspun wool in both the pile and warp and color-fasted with plant dyes, they boast a thickness of 2.5cm or more.
The patterns of the carpet are of a simple type with only a few elements of decorative, mostly rectangular objects containing animals. During the last decades, the weavers have had to meet the demands of the west and have therefore, resorted to using large light fields with chary pattering in the Gabbeh carpets.
